Do we need a local board game cafe/tavern/coffee shop?

There's no denying tabletop gaming has blown up in the U.S. over the past decade. Great board games, card games, and RPG's are being published and reprinted faster then you can keep track. I'm not talking about Monopoly, Clue, Scrabble or those mass market games we all know and (love?) I'm talking about games like Ticket to Ride, Catan, Dominion, Lords of Waterdeep, well designed modern games that many non-gamers have never heard of. Along with the explosion of these new modern classics across the country board game cafes are popping up, nerdy restaurants/taverns/coffee shops that feature a large table top game library you can usually pay a cover for unlimited access to the game collection. They all offer food, everything from cafeteria style fare to high quality sit down restaurant type food. More often then not a game store of some kind is attached, be it big or small. There are large gaming areas available, quality coffee, beer and wine, or even a full bar. Now to me this sounds really cool. Unfortunately I haven't been to one. But over the weekend my wife and I found ourselves on a date night at The Evansville Brewhouse. they have a very small shelf of games that are free to paying customers, so we played, Zombie Dice and The Oregon Trail: The Card Game. Light games, I know but we had so much fun sipping our craft beer and enjoying each others company over some light gaming. The question is do we need a boardgame cafe here? And I say we do.

I know locally we have Comic Quest, the Gaming Guild and Secret Headquarters. A little further out we have Knight's Games and Comics in Henderson, Big Bang in Owensboro, Game Knight in Huntingburg along with several others I'm sure I missed. These are all great nerd shops with all kinds of comics, games, collectibles and places to play your favorite games. I think the atmosphere in a restaurant/pub/coffee shop would lend more diversity to the area. Some local businesses are already jumping on the board game band wagon, PG is holding it's first ever game night at the end of this month, the aforementioned Evansville Brewhouse has their modest collection of tabletop fun and I've seen mass market games stationed at several local eateries. So the trend is slowly coalescing here, it just hasn't manifested in a dedicated, locally owned, business yet.

Now if a board game cafe opened here I'd want a little more then a cafeteria with some games. I'd like to see a nice sit down restaurant, with gourmet coffee and a bar serving beer and wine. On the TV's instead of playing random sports, maybe Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, you know cool geeky movies. And maybe even themed rooms. want to eat in a medieval tavern cool it's in the back, looking for something more sci-fi, try the Space Room. Are you more into comics try out the Superhero Room. Well, themed rooms may be a little over the top, but just think how cool it would be. I'll be going on vacation in Florida in a few weeks and I'm going to try to get out to a board game cafe, if I can, to fully experience what I'm sure is a unique, fun time. What are your thoughts about such a venue?
